Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with the president Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
